I received some files with the .musx extension (name.musx). How can I open these files? What type of file are them?

The .musx is the new Finale file format, introduced with Finale 2014.

Unlike the old “legacy” .mus file format the new .musx file format is downwards compatible, meaning that Finale 2014 can open .musx documents created in later Finale versions.

All Finale versions from Finale 2014 and later can export to the older Finale 2012 .mus (legacy) format.

To open a .musx document you need a 2014 program or later (e. g. Finale 2014, or PrintMusic 2014)

The new .musx file type is basically a compressed .zip file.
You can take a look “under the hood” by changing the file name extension from .musx to .zip, and “unzipping” the file.

By The Way:
The new Microsoft Word .docx file format is a .zip format, too.
