Don't know if anyone has come across anything like this before?

Finale is refusing to print anything.

I have a Brother HL-L2340DW, which is displaying no error messages. All other applications (Word, Excel, etc.) are printing normally, and Finale has been printing all morning with no problems. Suddenly, nothing. I go through all the procedure for requesting a print; no error messages come up. The little box comes up temporarily saying "sending music to printer", but nothing prints. Nothing appears on the print queue. Same thing if I send to CutePDF; everything works as normal, but no PDF is generated.

Tried different files in Finale, same issue.

I have no idea what to do.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Gareth

The first thing I'd do is shut down the computer and restart.

OK, so trashing the .INI files seems to have fixed it. Does anyone know a way of editing the old preferences files to fix the problem?

Compare a copy of the file from this morning with one from after Finale went funny.

If a copy of the defective file was saved first, this can be done. If not, then that would be impossible, unless it's still in the trash.

What no backup? There should be a file from yesterday, at the least. Then use a text file comparison utility to show what the differences are.

Yes, I still have the defective .ini file. How would I go about finding a copy of the file from earlier? Is it not possible to isolate the critical difference by comparing it with the new .ini?

Right-click in Windows Explorer and pick "restore previous versions" (make a copy first!).

But really, this is likely just yet another Finale bug, so I'm not sure much is to be learned.

I suspect Zuill is right, and since I now have a working .ini file, it would seem a little foolish to go poking around in it and risk corrupting it again. OK, it's a little annoying having to re-create all my preferences from scratch, especially the toolbar layout, but I guess I only have to do it once ...

I've made three rescue items: FINALE - Save.INI, FINMIDI - Save.INI, and Finale Registry.reg, the last a copy of [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MakeMusic\Finale2014.5] for when toolbars and palettes get trashed.

Ditto that. Leave well enough alone. Long time Finale users know that for a fact. But I will say the current version (25) is pretty darn good. Still............

Good idea; I should probably do that, even though this is the first time in nearly 18 years I've had to do an emergency trash of the .ini file ... just lucky, I guess.
