On a Mac, I can select a measure, and use Shift+Home or Shift+End to extend the selection to the beginning or end of the piece. I was working with a friend with a laptop PC, and couldn't find an equivalent. Is there one?

Same as Mac. Laptop may be different. Is there no Home key? No End key?

Then there might be a problem using some Finale shortcuts. Are there arrow keys?

Jari's Extend Selection plug-in is very useful here.

On a MacBook the combination Shift-fn-Arrow (right or left) extends the selection to the end or beginning. Is there a 'fn' key on the Windows laptop (or something similar)?

Probably depends on the maker of the laptop and how/if they implement numpad keys. Fn arrows on Mac laptops is an OS "shortcut" to do Page Up/Down, Home and End. (Fn-Return is Enter.)

Still no Clear key, though. Grrrrr.

I would say most if not all modern Windows laptops would have Home, Enter, Page Up and Down, arrow keys, etc. They're often added at the top, bottom, right side, etc. Perhaps Mike encountered an ancient one, or else he just didn't see them. Having to open a JW plug-in seems cumbersome.
