I upgraded to Finale 25 back in April and all has been fine and dandy until this afternoon.

(This morning everything was OK, too. Nothing changed 'twixt then and when the problem began.)

I opened a file I have edited a thousand times before, well quite a few, and suddenly Finale 25 said my 30 day trial has expired and I need to authorize the program. Some files opened Finale 2014.5 and others Finale 25.

None of them let me print.

I spent a lifetime, well, an hour or so, messing with the Makemusic web site to get this sorted. It involved a lot of entering of auth codes, user codes, computer codes, morse codes (I made that last one up).

I finally got it straight, I hope.

Anyone else have this issue?

Which version of Windows? Have you done any updates today? I don't let mine run automatically, just so I monitor things. However, if Windows 10, I'm not sure that is an option.

Anyway, sometimes Windows updates mess with Finale.

Personally, I've never had an authorization issue. I hope to keep it that way.

If you have not upgraded to 25.4, do so. There is an authorization issue with Windows 10 and 25.4 was supposed to fix it. You may have to contact MakeMusic Support on this also since you are seeing Expired.

If you aren't on Win10, then definitely contact Support.

Here is the latest:
I am now on 25.4.1.152.

1. If I double left click on the desk top icon everything is lovely.

2. If I right click on the desk top icon and click "Pin to taskbar" it pins it to the task bar - lovely.

3. If I then left click on the taskbar icon I get the same authorization issue I described above:

30 day trial expired, the Authorize Now button tells me to run as Admin.
If I exit, then run as Admin, the Help menu shows "Deauthorize" as an option.

I'm guessing that when you pin to the taskbar, it bypasses your selection to run as Administrator. So, jus run it from the desktop. That's what I would do. Am I missing something?

Thanks Z, no you are not missing something. I just like to use the taskbar for commonly used programs. It always worked until that fateful day in August.

What I did is to navigate to the Finale folder, open the properties of the execute file, go to the Compatibility tab, and checked "Run this program as an administrator." Never had a problem running it from the task bar.

I'm just throwing this out there as I know everyone has their own ways of doing things. I used to pin app shortcuts to the bottom taskbar. In fact I had so many favorites on my software devel computer (8 or so), I doubled the height so they'd take up a little less space horizontally. This was on Windows XP and 7.

When I moved to Windows 10, I started out doing the same thing. After working with 10 for a while, I found it was easier to pin the apps to the right panel of the Start Menu. That seems (at least to me) what Microsoft would like you to do. Yes -- it takes 2 clicks to start your app, but I'm used to it now. Plus, you can group your apps and even give the group a title.

Just a suggestion. Your mileage may vary.
