X-noteheads to snare drum?

I have a piece that uses X-noteheads as placeholders for speaking; in this case, cheers. The X-noteheads are not a problem, of course. Is there a way, after they have been entered, to change them all to something like a snare hit?

I guess I could put them in a different layer, but that would be kind of a PITA, especially where they are in a measure combined with sung syllables.

Why not put the snare sound in another layer, then hide it. The use of percussion without a Percussion staff (layout) would give a note that is not on the correct location, staff wise, no doubt.

Learning from your solution, I did it a bit differently. I just need the playback, for learning tapes. So I added two percussion staves (S/A and T/B have different chanting rhythms in a few spots.) I put the hits in that, and muted the notes in the part staves with JW Change. I'll blend them in the mixer.

Thanks for the lead!
