stems separated from noteheads

I just tried to update to the latest version of Finale. (Finale 25.4.1.152) When I did that and reopened a project, all the stems were separated from the noteheads. I then uninstalled and reinstalled Finale thinking that would solve my problem, but it did not. I'm now have 25.2.0.92 and all the stems are still separated from the noteheads. I've tried to go through Stem Connections to fix it, but it does not seem to make any visible difference. Any thoughts on how to correct this?

I'm sorry. I didn't mean a picture. I meant an actual Finale file. A picture doesn't really say much.

I suspect that it's a font annotation issue. Did you use a custom font in the original file? Do new documents work properly?

This file uses the Maestro font. Looks fine for me, so maybe Mike has the right answer. The file itself seems to be good.

Thank you for your help. Yes, it was a font issue. Seems to me I remember this being an issue the last time I put Finale on a new computer. I had to add Maestro to MacSymbolFonts for some strange reason, and now I'm back in business. I'm curious - what is the default font and how do I avoid this issue in the future?

That's strange, because Maestro IS (or should be) in the MacSymbolFont.txt file that comes with Finale 25. Unless you've copied over an old one, but presumably you added it there before, too.
Maestro is the default font and should "just work" on an out-of-the-box install of Finale.

There are numerous font issues in both the Mac and Win versions of Finale but here's the clue: They generally affect long time users and not not newbies.
With 25.2, MM updated many of the default fonts. On the Mac side, the installer does not automatically update Font Book with the latest and greatest. To add to the confusion, MM did not follow the Apple Toolkit till recently. It would surprise me if these issues didn't also exist on the Win side and, judging by the problems some have, they do exist. Lastly, the links contained on this site have the older 25.0/25.1 fonts and not the updated versions.

I do not have 64 bit Windows so I don't have a tutorial on how to purge all pld MM fonts completely and reinstall the latest versions only (like I wrote for the Mac). I do know that's often the best fix, however.

I only had a problem with one font on Windows, and MM fixed it with a downloadable replacement. Newer versions of Finale have installed with nary a font issue. I've been good with the fonts since 1997. I guess that would be 20 years.

Good for you! In fact, I think that your experience is normal. I haven't had these problems either and I go back nearly 30 years.zuill wrote:I only had a problem with one font on Windows, and MM fixed it with a downloadable replacement. People who aren't having these problems don't complain, of course. Then there are those who do...
