Where'd the dynamics and expressions options go on my files?

Hi there,

(currently use Finale version 25.4.0.155, updated from Finale 2009, also I'm using a Mac)

I updated Finale last year for the first time , yet it seems some of the older files are missing the dynamics/tempo/ expression options.
When I attempt to make a selection, there's nothing there (see pic below).

What can I do to get the options back? Any help appreciated.

Have they perhaps migrated into the ‘miscellaneous’ category?

Otherwise, import the relevant expression libraries from a newly created F 25 document into the old files. The process should go something like this. Create a new F 25 document. File menu>Save Library… Open the old file in F 25. File menu>Load Library…

That happened to me a few times.
Click Show All, they'll be there.

In the Expression Selection you can select an expression, and use a pop up menu to move the expression to another category.

You might e. g. like to move dynamics to the category Dynamics.

When an expression in a category (e. g. a dynamic in the category Dynamics) is selected, you can use a pop up menu to reset the expression’s settings for font and positioning to the (default) settings for that category.

This means that if you later change the settings for the category, then the expressions in the category will automatically be updated with the new settings.

An expression that is not reset to the settings for its category, will not be affected by a settings change for its category.

That's right. Furthermore, I've found that if you're doing light editing/corrections to a part, it's usually best to leave things as they are and not try to build any categories. Scores usually are different - you will lose the old "Staff Lists" which were the equivalent of the present "Score Lists". In order to properly show rehearsal marks, style markings, tempo markings, etc. you'll need to move them into the proper categories with the correct Score List. I usually leave dynamics and misc. text alone.
