I'm learning to use the figured bass facility in Finale and it works for a three-stack thorough bass. In the first measure, fourth beat of Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 2, the continuo indicates a four-number stack. Specifically, the top is a 6, the second level is a slashed 7, the third level is a 4, and the fourth level of the numeric stack is a 2. It seems to be an A7 chord with a B in the bass. An A9 maybe? Regardless of how it should be named, I've entered the first three values. How do I enter the fourth level, 2?

I scanned the whole rest of the overture of this piece and could not find any other four-level stacks of figured bass.

I think you're going to have to enter the 4th character in verse 2. Click where you want it, press the down arrow key and type. You can use the baseline adjustment triangles (first on the left) to set the vertical position.

Thank you, NG. I don't think I would have figured that out on my own. You hit it on the first try. Wonderful! Thanks.

Apropos the chord in question, it is a diminished chord over B. Function-wise it would probably be more adequate to call it an F#-9 with the root omitted, over B.
