Combining Staves
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I have a score with separate staves for Clarinet 1 and Clarinet 2. I want to make a smaller score by combining these staves (and also flute 1 & 2, bassoon 1 & 2, etc). I can use Utilities -> Implode and that works great as long as the two staves have exactly the same rhythmic values. But when they're not, it doesn't work and I've been entering the 2nd voice manually into layer 2. Is there some quick, neat way to copy from one stave and paste into layer 2 of another stave without destroying layer 1?

Get the JW Staff Polyphony plugin (from Jari's website) and this is much easier to accomplish. Check back here if you need help finding the plugin.

I have found issues with both implode and Staff Polyphony. One dropped slurs, and one dropped courtesy accidentals, but I haven’t used either in so long I don’t remember details!
My method is:
Move staff B to layer two. (Move/Copy Layers)
Switch View Active Layer Only ON and select layer 2. The notes in the A staff, being in layer one, will vanish. Don’t panic.
Drag the notes in Staff B to Staff A.
Switch View Active Layer Only OFF. All of your notes are there, in two layers.
Delete Staff B.
It takes less time to do it, than it took to type this.

Thanks for the help. The Active Layer copy method sort of works - but it forced up stems and down stems when only one is often needed. And, if both voices have a courtesy accidental, it appears for both voices and now looks like a double flat. I'll look into JW Polyphony and see if it works.

Stems should adjust as needed. Could you be a little more specific (or post a screenshot of the problem?)
Doubled accidentals are controlled with a setting in Document Options. This has been available for at least the last two versions. You might want to consider an upgrade.
