Using latest Finale in an up-to-date Mac.
I have three questions that I'll post separately. I do hope these are not considered "beginner" matters.
The first two are related, so I'll present them in one post.
I want to change the style of bar lines on a (53-year-old) piano piece. I want the type that exactly touches the bottom line of the right-hand staff and the top line of the left-hand staff. As you'll see from the attached graphic, I I'm almost there. The line goes slightly through the A line in the bass clef. Also, there's a tick at the top of the right-hand staff. I may have inadvertently stuck that in myself but I don't know how to get it out.
The second change is that I want to put time signatures down between the staves to the right of that new bar line. A plain text version of what I want looks sort of like this:
----- -----
----- -----
----- -----
----- -----
----- -----
|3
|4
----- -----
----- -----
----- -----
----- -----
----- -----
If I could make a better picture I'd know how to do it.
Additional information: I used to be much better than a beginner with Finale, but I'm relearning now after a break of over ten years. I'm working with a file I originally created back around 2006. Yes, it's been converted to a .musx file. I don't want to have to start from scratch on it.
Deeply grateful.

As far as I know, that is certainly a non-standard barline. If you have to have that, I would suggest using “barline between staves” and adding the extensions, possibly as a shape expression.

If this is what is needed, then it is simple. If not, please clarify.

Yes, Zuill, that's exactly what I want!
So what do I do?
Thanks for your prompt reply.

For the group, I used only between staves for the barline. I unchecked Time Signatures for the lower staff in Staff Attributes. I then set the offset for the time signature numbers (upper and lower) to -.5 in Document Options.

Zuill - This works!
It may have seemed simple to you, but I would have dug around for a month trying to find that.
Much thanks! Now all I have to do is clean up the barlines and I'm full speed ahead.

It's been quite a while since my OP on this question, so I hope it's still seen by those who know the answers.zuill wrote:For the group, I used only between staves for the barline. Zuill, to save a long explanation at the risk of appearing to be a moron, would you kindly explain to me what you mean by the first sentence of your reply: "For the group ... only between the staves for the barline." What does "for the group" mean, and what do I check or uncheck?
I had a solution that mostly works but not exactly. As I said, I'll save you the details at this point.
Thanks for your patience.

Sorry motet, but where do I find this "Group Attributes" popup?motet wrote:...
I've looked in Document Options under Barlines and Staves,
in the Measure Tool menu, and in the Measure Attributes pop-up
(which looks like a likely choice, but I don't see it).
Sorry, drawing blanks. BTW, using the latest Finale with the latest
Mac OS.
Clueless and embarrassed. (And getting ticked off.)

Bingo! Got it -- FINALLY!motet wrote:Staff tool menu, Group and bracket, Edit.
And thanks also for the Staff Group editing manual link.
That's something I haven't had to deal with yet.
Maybe one more problem with this ... later.
