Hello,

I am trying to find out how the brace in a barre chord is made in Finale. Within Chord Definition>Fretboard Styles, there is a Fonts & Shapes tab which seems to define that shape but once I go there, it is nowhere to be found. It looks like a shape that is drawn, perhaps modifiable, rather than a font character. Either way, is there a way I can have access to it?

This is for F2007.

Thanks.

I do not recall how it was in Finale 2007, but in my own copy of v25:

In the dialog box Chord Definition, there is the button “Edit Styles…”

From there follow the path
Edit Styles… > Fonts & Shapes… > Barre: Select… > Create…

You end in the Shape Designer where you can create your own Barre shapes.
You create a Barre shape with the Shape Designer’s sub-tool Slur Tool.

When you - in the Shape Designer - have created a slur, switch to the sub-tool Selection Tool, and select the slur.
You get three handles on the slur.
Clicking the middle handle gives you two new handles.

Hi Peter. It's a bit different in 2007. Can you access the default shape for the barre (which looks like an arc)? That's what I can't get a hold of.

It doesn't appear that the Barre bracket is available in a default document (Why I don't know). The Help files for both Finale 2012 and 25 both refer to "creating your own shape". Here is a page from the Finale 25 manual - you should have a corresponding page in your 2007 manual.

It might be a bit of a challenge to make your own. As Peter said above, go to the Shape Designer, create a new shape, and use the Slur Tool. You might also contact Make Music to see if they have one ready made which they could send you via a library file.

How is it different?
Is the Shape Designer different in Finale 2007?
I thought that the Shape Designer had not been changed at all for decades.

I am afraid I do not understand.
What is the problem you are trying to solve?

If you need to use the default shape, then just use it (in the Fretboard Editor).

If you need to create your own shape, then follow the instructions in my previous post.

I could be wrong here, but I think that the default shape for the barre is the default slur, you get in the Shape Designer’s sub-tool Slur Tool.
