Hi all,

I recently updated my Mac to the newest OS (10.12.6), and I started encountering a bizzare error. Whenever I use the expression tool, Finale would crash. It allows me to select the Expression tool in the tool palette. However, when I would click on the staff to actually enter an expression, Finale would crash immediately. Has anyone encountered this?

This is Finale 2014 running on Mac (OS. 10.12.6). Was never a problem with previous OS

Here is Problem Report, if this contains relevant info:

Thank you all in advance!

The usual thing to try with something like this is "trashing your preferences," that is, removing the file that contains your preferences and letting Finale recreate it. Due to bugs, it seems, the file can sometimes get corrupted.

You say the latest Mac OS, but that is 10.13 (High Sierra.)

2014 is not supported on OS 10.12, or beyond. It may run poorly, or not at all.

Your best solution is to upgrade to 2014.5 if it’s still available. If not, go to F25.

If you have 10.13, you will have to go to F25.

This is a known issue even though it's not mentioned in the post below. The other thing you won't be able to do is resize the tool palettes. There are no more releases planned for 2014.5:

The workaround is to not do either; the fix for both issues is to update to Finale 25. A number of resellers have the upgrade priced at $119.

If you take advantage of that offer, use a Safari or Firefox to do the update — Chrome doesn't like the proces.
