I need the attached articulation symbol. It looks like two small accent marks, but goes above or below the note, just as a single accent does.

I haven't found this symbol in any fonts that I have. If it's available in some other font, please tell me that font's name and where I can find it. If I need to create it, what are the steps necessary to do that?

Are you making a screenshot? If so, just zero in on the character itself. I'd think that would be a small enough file.

If you can't find it in a font, you can create it as a shape articulation.

Or just apply two accents and adjust them manually to look how you want.

Here's what the shape would look like.

What does it mean? Is there a more modern (clearer) way of notating it?

Zuill, how do I make that?

N.G., the publication I'm working from was published in 1854. It's 72 Studies on Taste and Style Composed Expressly for the Boehm Flute by Louis Francois Phillippe Drouet. I'm not sure what he means by it and will, definitely, replace it with a synonymous modern articulation when I find out what that should be. Meanwhile, I need to have the original symbol in place so I don't forget it and so anyone else who sees this will be able to research it to satisfy themselves as well.

It appears that this symbol might have something to do with indicating vibrato, specifically chest vibrato. See page 22 on the PDF at the following link:

Thank you. Dolmetsch often has interesting contributions issues like this.
