Say I've typed in a whole measure in level 2 and meant for it to be at level 1. (Which I just did.)
Is there a simple way to just push it to the right level rather than reentering it all?
Yeah, the color should have clued me in that I was working in level 2. But it didn't.

Do you mean layers?
In the Selection Tool you can move or copy layers.

With the Selection Tool, right click and Move/Copy Layers is in the context menu. Might save a step.

Got it. I said levels, yes I meant layers. Sorry.
Selection, right click. Simple as can be if you know where it is.
Problem solved. Thanks.

Yeah, the colour should have cued you in that you were working in layer 2... this still happens to me so often that I even have a macro for moving layer 1 -> layer 2 and vice-versa. Do you have a macro program? I think most seasoned Finale users would agree on the usefulness of an external program for defining keypresses instead of having to grab the mouse and wade through menus.

Macros? You mean this thing is programmable?
I would love to be able to bind certain regular operations ...
such as selecting various fundamental tools ... to keystrokes.
My 25 years as a software engineer makes this possibility quite appealing.
It's just something I have not yet investigated. In fact I was not yet even
aware of macros in Finale.
However, it took me all of about ten seconds to flip the measure I was
worried about from level 1 to level 2 using the menu -- and I didn't even
know about it when I started. Next time it'll take half that.

One of the little new features in F25 is that the cursor in SimpleEntry now displays in the selected Layer colour, making it easy to see whether you're laying down notes in the wrong layer.
If you just want to add more keyboard shortcuts to menu items, you can do that using the Mac OS System Prefs > Keyboard pane.
Many people use general apps, such as iKey, QuickKeys and KeyboardMaestro, for triggering sequences of recorded UI actions in Finale. You can also use AppleScript to select menu items, check boxes and press buttons, though it's a bit convoluted. Then there's FinaleScript, of course. Plus Jari's JW Lua plug-in.lynndavidnewton wrote:Macros? You mean this thing is programmable?

I still use QuicKeys which hasn't been updated for years and I'm gradually transitioning to Keyboard Maestro. I can vouch for having macros for as much as possible!

There's also FinaleScript, which has some problems but which may be easier to get working. With Autohotkey on Windows, at least, I need to put delays into certain things or Finale can't keep up, but FinaleScript, being Finale aware, generally knows to wait automatically.
