I've got a couple of more questions.

I'm cleaning up a few things in this piece. The screen capture shows what I'm trying to fix.

1) The ties aren't connecting for some reason. How can I connect these?

2) For the first low G note: I want the half note to show and I want to hide the eight note - but if I hide the eight note then the beam goes away. Is it possible to display the half note with the beam and a tie?

I'm using Finale version 25.5 for Mac

As far as the ties, you'll need to manually drag them to the notes, as they are note consecutive. They won't play back as ties, though.

As far as the hiding, don't do that. Instead, change the eighth note head to a half note head, and then overlap the 2 noteheads.

@zuill - Thanks! I was able to drag the ties over by first clicking Special Tools (wrench icon), and then clicking the Tie Tool. Handles on the ties then become available to manipulate - drag & stretch.

Now, I'm a bit lost on how I could increase the eighth note to a half note without disrupting the other three eight notes (on layer one - the black colored notes). Is there a way to create, what I'd describe as, a fake note head - so that the timing isn't messed up? Also, I'm scratching my head on how to make two notes overlap.

You only change the notehead, but keep it an 8th note. Also in Special Tools, pick the Note Shape Tool. Double-click the notehead and choose the open notehead instead of the filled in one.

Ah, got it! Okay, that's what I did - I used the Note Shape tool to create a fake note head (on layer 1) - then used the Note Position tool to move the real half note (layer 2) on top of the eight note (layer 1). Slick!
