Hi, I use Finale 2009.r2 for Mac. I updated my Mac OS to High Sierra Version 10.13.1. Something happened in that update that messed up all my Finale charts, now all my beams have disappeared! The stems are still there, but the beams connecting my 8th notes are gone. Any ideas on getting them back? Please don't suggest a Sharpie.

Only Finale 25 (the latest version) is compatible with Hi Sierra. 2009 has not been fully compatible with the past 2 or 3 Mac OSes.

As a last ditch effort, you might want to try trashing your Finale 2009 Preferences and restarting. Also, turn Human Playback off because that definitely will cause a crash.

Upgrade to Finale 25 and you'll be good to go.

OK, thanks. I'll try the last ditch effort before spending the $149 for the upgrade. I'm cheap and have been a happy customer and haven't felt the need for an upgrade until now, only because of this problem. How do I trash my Finale 2009 Preferences?

From the Finder, hold down Option, and pull down the Go menu.
Because you held down the Option key, the user account’s (otherwise hidden) Library folder appears in the menu.
Open the Library folder.

Remove the Preferences file.

The next time you launch Finale 2009, Finale will build a fresh, new Preferences file - and hopefully your Finale problem has gone away.

What OS version did you update from? 2009 has been unsupported and known to have problems with several preceding versions of MacOS, at least as far back as Mavericks in 2014. I'm surprised it works at all.
(In fact, I see that MM didn't even support 2009 on OS X Lion; and support for Snow Leopard was a feature of F2010...! )

You may be able to get a cheaper price than $149 - MM have been offering some good upgrade deals. That means you will get a huge number of improvements for your outlay, including revisions to Laying out Staves, chords, Lyrics, Garritan samples, etc, etc. You'll need to read the help pages to find out how the new features work, otherwise you'll get frustrated.
