Hey Forum Friends:

I do some composition for guitar in standard notation where I want to double stem a note across two layers.
An example: A half note stemmed to a pattern of eighth notes filling out two beats.
(I want it to be obvious to the player that the bass note sustains while the pattern is played.)
Because they are mixed note values; a half note stemmed downward and an eighth note stemmed up,
the manual doesn't seem to address that.

Thanks for the assist.

You can flip an individual stem. Select the note and tap the L key. You can check the help files for more methods. Or, you can make that half note stemless. Again, check the help files.

Can you provide a picture of what you want? Hand-drawn is OK.

Hey Miker & Motet:

Thanks to both of you for the response.

Miker:
Thats exactly what I'm talking about. I had checked the help files first, before posting the question, but didn't hit on the solution. Or maybe didn't see it that way. Where would I find an explaination of how you did that?

Thanks again.

I entered the eighth notes in layer one. I selected the region containing the first one, and used Utilities > Change > Noteheads... to change it to Hollow (Half Note)

Then I entered the half note in layer two. You either have to change the collision setting in Document Options > Music Spacing so that the notes will overlap, or move the half note manually: your call.
