Hello all. Is there a way to get brass instruments to play back in certain mutes? My specific example is in a big band chart; I would like to hear the trumpets in harmon mutes, but I cannot get it to work. I was hoping someone here would be so kind as to explain how to get it to work. Currently I have created an expression that says "hamon" with no playback feature specified (as from what I found online that you should do). The trumpets are set to the Jazz Trumpet KS sound. My HP set to jazz because for some reason if it is set to standard only the saxophones swing the 8s, which is another issue I've never had before. I've tried it with several different HP setting, but I have yet to hear a difference in the trumpet timbre.

If HP doesn't do it for you, create an expression playback using the Data Dump approach. If you have a file that I can edit, I might be able to create it for you as a demo.

Here's a 2012 file showing the 4 available mute sounds. The expressions use a ks data dump to get the change.

Oh my, that is wonderful. Worked like a charm. Thank you so much for your help!

Edit: where do you get the information for the fields within the data dump? Also, what do I need to do to un-mute the trumpet sounds?

I was about to post a revised file with the ks data dump for Open, so now it is attached.

I can't seem to find the ks numbers for the mutes in the 2012 manual. If you do a Google search for Garritan key switches, you might find it like I did.

The numbers you see when looking at the Data Dump definitions have changed from what I entered, as that's how computer speak works. It changes them to what is needed.

There are 4 slots. The first tells how many commands you are entering. I enter 3 there. Then, in the next box, enter 144. In the third box, enter the key switch number. Lastly, in the 4th box enter 127.

The ks numbers (for the 3rd of the 4 slots) are: Open=0, Straight Mute=2, Cup Mute=4, Harmon Mute=5, Bucket Mute=7.

P.S.: Here's a link to the Finale 2014 help page for keyswitches: https://usermanuals.finalemusic.com/Fin ... tanHP6.htm
The Jazz and Big Band keyswitches are about half way down the page.
