Windows 7 Finale 2014.5
I have violins 1, 2 and 3 in a score I will be optimizing. The section is set up as a group with a group name of "Violins", and then the three individual staves are labelled 1, 2 and 3.
In some instances I only need to show the whole group playing unison on one stave. The "all viols." staff style I've created for this only affects the individual staff name. The group name of "Viol." still shows up. Suggestions? Is there any way to address this with one staff style, rather multiple ones?

I have a way to accomplish the goal, but first, I'm intrigued by your suggestion of doing it with multiple Staff Styles. How does that work? I didn't know a Staff Style could hide a group name. I'm probably forgetting something.

"Viol." seems like a fine label for all playing tutti. An option might be to leave the staff label off and use that.
A group can also encompass only part of a piece, so you could have no group (or a different group) where it's tutti.

This is a v25 file, but should open on 2014.5.

The Staff Name is done with a Staff Style. As far as the Group, highlight that one measure and with the Staff Tool, from the dropdown menu, under Group and Bracket, choose Remove. Now, the group is split into 2 sections. That measure is not in either of the sections, so the group name no longer shows.

That trick only works if there is only 1 group. Since I can't see your file, I wouldn't be able to make a suggestion for it. If there are other groups overlapping, then the technique takes a bit more work. Not difficult, but not as simple as in the demo file.

For my own future reference, and for anyone else in the same situation:
Zuill, your solution eliminates the group bracket for my entire string section. I've solved this by determining what measure number is the first one in the system (via Measure attributes), then highlighting the violin measure, selecting the staff tool, going in to the Staff menu on the top menu, selecting Group and Bracket -> Edit. Be sure to choose WHICH specific group you want this to apply to from the list of groups. To the right of that, indicate the one specific measure, then unclick "Show Group Name." That retains the bracket for the entire string section but eliminates the one group name and allows the staff style to show on its own.

So Zuill, my solution also has a bug: it removes the group name AND bracket from the entire violin section throughout the entire document, even though I'm indicating that it should only remove the group name for one measure. I'm stumped.

I believe I gave you the solution above. If the tutti section is mm. 112-140, say, then make three groups:
mm 1-111: name and bracket
mm 112-140: bracket only
mm 141-end: name and bracket
Don't uncheck "show group name," which does appear to remove the bracket, but rather don't give it a name at all.

Hi Motet,
I appreciate the suggestion. This document is part of an opera, comprising 14 documents total, and there are constant instances both within each document and across the whole project of needing (preferring) to condense the section to one line. Meaning that it sounds like for each document of the 14 I'd be coming up with tons of groups for each region, which seems cumbersome.
Barring figuring out why the program doesn't hide the Group name for a specified measure region, as it seems like it ought to - but maybe I'm not understanding that menu correctly - I think I'll just create a staff style of "(all)", which will be centered underneath the group name. It's not ideal but it'll do for now.

In that case, if it were me, I would just hide the staff name with a staff style and let the group name label it, which is very easy to do. I think "all" is quite unnecessary (scroll down in the attachment).

I did mention that if thee was another bracket, there is a bit more work. Forget anything else to do or add except this:
Double click the Group handle in the previous system and note that a set of measures is selected that ends at the measure before the one in which we removed the groups. Simply choose All Measures there. Now the system in which we removed the other group has the String Group bracket restored.
