I just upgraded to Finale 25 (actually 25.5) and immediately encountered an issue that has me completely stumped.

In working on some files begun in Finale 2014 and Finale 2014.5, some of the staccato marks have jumped out of their correct position when the file is opened. They jump back into correct position when their handles are selected, but then jump back out of position on a screen redraw. They also print out of position.

The problem remains if the staccato is deleted and replaced, if the note is deleted and replaced, if the measure is cleared, and if the measure is completely removed and replaced with a new measure. If the setting is set to "manual" instead of "note side" or any of the other choices, the problem remains when I position it manually, with the staccato refusing to stay in position on screen redraw. If a new staccato mark is created and used instead, the problem remains.

Here is an example and also a Finale File. The staccato on the first note is too low, but all the other staccatos are correct. This is typical in that many neighboring staccato markings are correct and don't jump.

No problem with the staccato dots for me in this file. The flag was odd. Flags were set to VintageECP1 24 plain, so it showed as an odd character.

Thanks, Zuill. I just replaced the flag font with Maestro in the demo file above so it will display properly.

It might be a Mac thing. I am now using OS 10.12, but the file displays and behaves properly in Finale 2014 and 2014.5 on OS 10.12. Only Finale 25 has the issue.

I'd check out the Maestro Font Annotation files. Quit Finale, remove the fan files to the desktop, restart and open the Finale file. When you're warned that there is no fan installed, specify "auto-generate". There are 2 fan files - Application Support in your User library and Application Support on the Hard Drive.

You could also check the Preferences.

Thanks, N. I will try that tomorrow. Did you open the file and did the staccato display correctly for you?

John, your file shows fine on my Windows 10/Fin25:
both with Maestro and when I change it manually with "Set Default Music Font" to Wess' VintageECP1 font.

So it could be a FAN issue.
Or: have you added VintageECP1 to MacSymbolFonts?
I haven't tested it on MacOS, but on Windows I have added the font to it.

Thanks Jan. Everyone had it right, for which I am very grateful. It was the flag being in Vintage that apparently caused a FAN issue (not that I know a thing about FAN issues.) All was correct in the MacSymbolFont area. However, FAN files do not appear in the FAN folders for the Vintage or other non-Finale fonts I use, like my treble clef. That has never been a problem before, but I am concerned about it in Finale 25. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

PS When I made the font change to the Finale file I posted yesterday, it corrected the problem, but unfortunately I didn't notice that when I reposted it. This morning I was shocked to see that the demo was correct, but my original was still incorrect. That is when light dawned.
