Expression for swung 16ths?
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
Is there a way to do a swung sixteenths expression at the top of a song.
eg the swung 8ths expression (no7) is there - two 8ths = 1/4, 8th tuplet
But I'd like to also have an expression that shows four sixteenths = 8th,16th (tuplet) 8th,16th (tuplet)
I've seen this in drum books, but whether they were using Finale..?

This can be done with the Maestro Time font.
To save you time, try this : copy/paste this sequence and change it to MaestroTime :
ŒÊÊÊ = ‰ÇÙ ‰ÇÙ
You'll get this :

To get full control over each individual element in the symbol, create it as a shape expression.
The “swung 8ths expression (no7)” you have found in the default, is a shape expression.
See the attached Finale documents for some shape expression variations on the theme - with 16ths.

Oops, sorry!
I did not notice that you are using Finale 2009.
Unfortunately I do not have Finale 2009.
Attached are some older examples (for Finale 2001, I think).
You should be able to open them in Finale 2009.

An expression is document specific, not program specific.Kroy wrote:… Is there a way to copy get this into 2009's Expression Selection?

In Other Words:
You can get the expression into your Finale 2009 documents, not into the program Finale 2009 itself.
To get the expression into a document, copy music (e. g. one measure) with the expression into the document.
Or save the expression as a library, and load that library into the document.
To have the expression in all new documents, add the expression to the template you use for new documents.

Ok that sounds pretty straight forward..Peter Thomsen wrote:An expression is document specific, not program specific.Kroy wrote:… Is there a way to copy get this into 2009's Expression Selection?
