multiple short pieces on same sheet
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
Hi all, have been using finale for years, but have strangely not run across this yet.
How can I print/publish multiple short pieces of music on the same sheet of paper? Each one should have its own title, copyright, etc. Some are as short as just four bars and might only take a single system.
FYI, the application is parts for a mass. I'd prefer to have each as it's own individual musx file, and put together in a pdf when i publish, but I'll do it whatever way works I suppose
Thanks!
Geoff

There are a few ways. If they are that short, you might look at the Education templates for 2- and 4- measure examples. You could also do it with a regular score, hiding cautionary changes and staves as needed.

Geoff,
Are you still using Finale 2009?
Your forum profile says you are using Finale 2009, but I wonder whether your profile needs an update.

The short answer is that for each new piece, set the measure attributes of the first measure of the piece to "Begin a new staff system" and "Time signature: always show." In addition, you'll probably want to set the measure attributes of the last bar of the preceding piece to "Barlines: Final" and "Hide cautionary clefs, key and time signatures."
You'll have to do titles and copyrights with text blocks or expressions.

Then you can open the attached example which shows a way to get a movement title positioned:gdgross wrote:… I'm on the latest version …
A one-measure system that does not display anything (= no staff-lines, no clef, no time signature, &c.) - except an expression with the movement title.

I knew you guys in the US always get the new versions before us in good old Europe, but I didn't know 2025 was already out I still have to update to version 25...gdgross wrote:I'm on the latest version (2025)
Anyway, regarding multiple short pieces on a single page, I just finished an opera with just that. The whole work was in one file. I used JW New Piece, which helped me a lot. It's downloadable for free on the Finale Productivity Tips Site.

I think he's just preemptively making sure that his signature will be up-to-date even 7 years from now.HaraldS wrote:I knew you guys in the US always get the new versions before us in good old Europe, but I didn't know 2025 was already out I still have to update to version 25...Haraldgdgross wrote:I'm on the latest version (2025)
