Repeats

A friend is laying out a hymn, to be sung:
Chorus
Verse 1
Chorus
Verse 2
Chorus
Verse 3
Chorus

The chart has chorus, verses 1-3

Backwards Repeat bar at the end, (unnecessary) forward repeat bar at the beginning, Fine at the end of the chorus. What (if any) repeat text is needed at the end? Is a DC al Fine enough? Would it be understood that it only applies after Verse 3?

(BTW, playback is correct. I just need to know about the text!)

In most hymnals, no repeat sign or DC is needed, generally. It is all understood. If the final bar line is indicated at the end of the Chorus, and a regular double barline at the end of the verses, that is generally understood. A good example is the Hymn Lift High the Cross. In my hymn book, the word Refrain is written at the beginning, and then the word Refrain is written above the end of the last measure of the verses. No repeat sign needed.

Anyway, you could put DC al Fine After Last Verse, or DC al Fine 3rd Time, if clarity is needed. I'm sure others have their preferred approach.

Thanks, Zuill. I’ll pass that on.

Out of my area of expertise, but I think I would put repeat signs at the beginning and end and put "Fine" after the chorus. It wouldn't make sense to stop anywhere until all verses have been sung.
