I have two bipartite minuets that are to be played one after the other, then the first is to be played again (al primo). Everything works well in playback, except that the repeats are not played in the first minuet when the da capo takes place. What do I need to specify in the settings to get both sections of the first minuet to be repeated in the da capo?

Since we don't have a file to examine, it would be hard to say. One just needs to properly set things up properly and it should work. But there are too many unknowns without a file to examine. You can delete all the notes bot leave the repeats there and we can then check the setup.

Okay, the Fine should be set to stop on pass 4. The repeat at the end of the first minuet should be set for 2 times, but also to reset on repeat action.

Tradition is to not repeat on the DC. However, one can ask for whatever one wants. If the repeat is wanted, it is usually asked for. I've seen DC al Fine con Replique as one way to indicate to repeat the first section.

P.S.: I know I've seen Replique, but now I can't find a sample. Maybe use English "With Repeats". Or It. con replica?

Thank you Zuill; your suggestion was most helpful and the problem is almost solved. The second repeat in the first minuet is now observed, but not the first. Could this be because the first repeat has first and second time endings?

I realise that traditionally, repeats are not generally observed when going back to a minuet (after a trio, for example, or a second minuet). But this may not always have been the case before c.1750, and I've heard many Early Music groups perform Da Capo minuets with all repeats.

That's why I suggested you post the file. We had too little information. Now more is coming out, but still not enough to be of help, it seems. May we see the file? Advice is limited unless all the facts are known.

I suppose we could keep guessing. Now that we know there are 1st and 2nd endings, and not having your file, I suppose we can suggest what the layout is until we get close enough to suggest the resolution of the issue. The attached image is a very short model of what it seems you are trying to do. is this close? If not, then I guess you will have to post a sample for us to examine.

Florio60,

I am not sure I understand.

Take a look at the attached Finale document.

Does this document repeat as needed?

Thank you very much, Peter. Your revised version was basically what I was after; I discovered however two 'mistakes' that were obviously in my original file.

Firstly there was no forward repeat sign in the the second part of Minuet 1. And secondly (in the da capo) when playing second section for the second time, Finale went back to bar 1 instead of bar 10.

I have corrected these details in the minuet-revised file; I just have to transfer the settings across to my original file.

Further to my last post, I've tried using the settings in the document you prepared for me, Peter, but for some reason the first section in the first of the two minuets is still not being repeated. I cannot really understand this, since your document works perfectly but mine doesn't.
I'm attaching my document; would you mind having a look to see what's going on?
Many thanks,
Florio

This revised file should work. Study the 2 dialogue boxes for the first ending to see how I did it.

Zuill

P.S.: Peter's file was based on your file that didn't have the repeat sign following the 2nd ending. So, using his settings would not be helpful.
