I can´t do a slur within Finale.

When selecting the Slur Tool, another tool such as the dashed slur tool, trill tool or 8va tool appears in the mouse cursor. And vice versa, I select the trill tool, and the Line Tool appears in the mouse cursor.

Anybody know how to fix this?

I am using Finale V25. I saved the file as a Finale 2012 file to try with the 2012 version but the same issue happens.

That's odd. Does it happen on every file or just one?

It happens on every file..

My first guess would be a stuck key on the computer keyboard.

Have you tried a re-boot?
A re-boot may fix a “virtually”, electronically, stuck key.

If the key is physically stuck (rather then electronically stuck), then you may be able to fix it by hitting the key repeatedly.

It worked briefly after rebooting. However after a while the issue stared again.

Note: The expression Tool also is not working. I try to use the Expression Tool and another expression happens or playback starts and there is no way to stop it unless force quitting the program.

This sounds like it might be a corrupt preferences file.

It definitely sounds like a stuck virtual key. Restarting normally takes care of it; but if not, then try trashing preferences, as Zuill suggests.

Under Edit—Preferences, I selected Reset All Preferences. The issue still persists however...

I also reinstalled Finale, but the issue still persists too..

I think you have to trash the preferences to get an absolutely clean set. Make Music has a way to do this - see here:

I wish they would separate their buggy file from the user preferences, and, short of fixing the myriad bugs, give a one-button way of really resetting it.

I don't get different cursors for these tools--perhaps the O.P. misspoke. Occasionally I'll select a hairpin with a programmed function key and get the slur, but clicking the hairpin in the palette will then do the right thing.

Now that I re-read the original post, I also see that the reported behavior is not normal behavior. The mouse cursor doesn't show the selected tool. maybe there's an option I'm not aware of. I guess we need further explanation of what is happening. Possibly everything is as it should be. As long as the selected smart shape is appearing in the score, all is well.

Correct. I get different mouse cursors that don't match the selected Smart Shape. Not only the Smart Shape Tool is weird, pretty much everything.

When selecting the Expression Tool, just clicking once I get pppp.
With the Articulation Tool, just clicking once on a note a 2 appears above it.

Looks like I will have to reformat my PC to see if that will fix it. Perhaps it is a virus/malware..

I’ve seen something similar before.

In the default file, pppp has metatool 0. For articulations, the number 2 has metatool 2. So, several stuck keys, or, as Mike suggests, a wireless mouse run amok?

Just a USB connected regular mouse. With the mouse disconnected, using the laptop track pad, it is still the same.

A PC reset did the trick
