Hi,
New user and a little confused about an export. I notated an 11/8 riff in finale, then exported as a mid file. I then dragged and dropped into a track in Reaper - the Reaper project is in 11/8 - the midi file should have fit right in but it's coming up one beat short. I must have don't something something wrong in Finale - I've dropped other 11/8 midi loops into the Reaper project and they fit fine. I don't have enough experience to troubleshoot this any further so looking for some help here.
Please see attachments for example of the issue.
Thank you!
Daf

I'm out of my element with Reaper or MIDI export, but what happens if you put something in the next measure, even a rest.

Hi BIll - thanks for the reply. Well, there is a rest in the next measure - not mathematically correct tho. I will try filling out the next measure and see if that evens out the previous.
Thanks

Try setting up a compound time signature - 2+3+3+3/8, set to display as 11/8.

You could post the original Finale file (e.g. a shortened version to show the issue), the exported MIDI file and the exported audio file here for further investigation. E.G. in a MIDI file, there's a reference to a time signature and it would be interesting, if that's already faulty or correct. Could be a way to narrow down the error to some extent.

I can't see any problem in the Finale file that would cause that problem. What happens if you change the quarter rest at the end of the measure to two 8th rests?

I did try the 2 8ths and it was the same result.
Well it seems that Finale may have an issue with exporting rests when at the end of the last measure. Not a huge deal, I can work around it. Just thought maybe I was doing something wrong. I've sent a support request to Make Music as well - maybe they weren't aware of this.
Thanks everyone!

Did you try MIDI file Type 1 and Type 0? Also, did you try copying to the MIDI clipboard and pasting into Reaper. I don't know that it's an option.

MIDI doesn't deal with silence. It only deals with note on and note off data or event data over time. That rest on the end doesn't exist as far as a MIDI file is concerned. The last information required was the final eighth note before the quarter rest. If you put a note in the next measure, then there would be data as to when that next note occurs, but nothing that indicates a rest except lack of data.

I only see a .musx file, but no MIDI or audio file. My suggestion was to post all of these for comparison.Daf57 wrote:Harald - I've attached the files - thanks!
MIDI file format 0 or 1 shouldn't make a difference, their only difference is whether the channels get mixed to a single track or if each channel gets a seperate track. That shouldn't affect time signature or any other rhythmic information like the delta times.

HI Harald - well I thought I did post the other files. Here is the midi file.
Edit - I guess the forum is not allowing the file to be uploaded. Ah I see now this message when I try to upload "The extension mid is not allowed."
Here is the file on my server http://www.dreamscraps.com/elevenhates.mid
Thanks!

Daf57 wrote:That makes sense FwL - I have midi drum loops where the loop ends with a rest. This made me think it should be the same with the Finale export.
Thanks!
Can you post one of those loops as well? I'm guessing they're using a trick to keep them a certain length.
