Can Finale record and notate taps from drum sticks?

There used to be a way to input into Finale with a microphone but they may have scrapped that.

If this is your question about notating the rhythm of spoken speech, I'm skeptical that would work. Music is based on a regular beat and trying to shoehorn the rhythm of speech into that would at best result in something that's unreadable. But you could try Hyperscribe, and tap the rhythm on a MIDI keyboard. Or perhaps making a MIDI file and importing it.

motet,

I don't have a midi keyboard. How can I make a midi file? I have the drum sticks and Finale.

Thank you for your help.

Maybe there's some kind of virtual MIDI possible on the Mac. Someone else will have to weigh in since I'm not on a Mac.

Tempo Tap is a function that allows you to tap a tempo manually. Check the manual. But it only dictates a basic tempo (you decide its value, quarter note, eighth note...), not complex rhythmic figures. Finale then adjusts its playback tempo accordingly.
To enter rhythmic figures, you will need some midi instrument. Midi channel 10 is dedicated for percussion sounds.

There are many apps that can convert audio to MIDI. Any good DAW can do this including Logic.

Even better is an inexpensive MIDI drum controller that you can play. The least expensive ones or this page have 8 or 16 pads.

However generated, you can then import the resulting MIDI or MusicXML into Finale.

No, this is not something that takes a paragraph or two to explain but there are many videos and manuals that explain this. You'll have to do some searching to find a start point. Google is your friend.
