What's going on with the multi-measure rest numbers? I'm guessing maybe a measure number rest setting. I messed around, but couldn't find it.

Please be more specific about the question. The MM rests look okay to me, though I am on a Mac.

Are you talking about the measure number beneath the MM rest?

Yes! That's exactly the problem. I tried breaking the rest and looking for a setting but I couldn't find one.

1) I am not sure what you need for the measure number, but try this:

Measure Tool.
Select All.
Measure menu > Restore Measure Number Defaults

If that is not, what you need, then I apologize.

2) There are two ways to get to the dialog box Measure Number where you can edit Measure Number Regions.

One way:
Document menu > Edit Measure Number Regions

The dialog box has two chiclets, one for the Score, and another for the linked parts.

In the lower pane you can find settings for measure numbers on multimeasure rests.

If you are trying to get rid of that measure number under the MM rest, go Measure Tool > Edit Measure Number Region > un-click Show on Multimeasure Rests > or fix the range to show range instead of one number.

Bill, I'm sorry I didn't get back to you on this and thank you. Unfortunately I did not have those options checked anyway, so not sure what to do.....the only solution I found was to individually go through each part and right click on those mm rests, and click on "show/hide based on region." It works, but it's really tedious, of course. I'd like to understand the logic of why I'm suddenly getting all those happening; never had this before.

Upload your file here if you can. Without that, it would be hard to even guess.

Try this: Under Measure > Restore Measure Number Defaults.

I can create (by strange manipulation) new measure numbers for movements II and III in the same file, but then the measure numbers in the parts don't appear at the start of staff systems for II and III. Help!!

Assuming that you have created 2 additional measure regions (via Edit Measure Regions in the Measure tool), you may have forgotten to define the parameters of the parts in region II and III (via the Linked Parts thumbnail).

My guess is that you've unchecked "Show on top staff." You need that, because staff numbers are suppressed in the staff settings for most instruments so they won't show up in the score.
