Hi Finale people,

I'm organising some parts for an orchestral piece I have written, and for some reason I can't create multi-measure rests! I've made sure that the all the empty bars have 'real' rests in them, so this isn't the culprit.

The only thing that I can see might be an issue is that I have numbered every bar in the part, and I want to have a range across the multi-measure rest. However, I thought I'd done this correctly, too.

If someone could help me out, that would be really appreciated!

I've attached one of the parts to have a play with.

Many thanks as always!

Cheers

That is in fact the culprit. They shouldn't have real rests in them if you want multimeasure rests.

And for some reason, you've turned off "display rests in empty measures" in the staff attributes.

Thanks Motet! I completely reversed what was supposed to happen with the 'real' and 'fake' whole rests. And I probably turned off the 'Display Rests...' as I became more confused about what I was trying to do. Thanks, it all works now. :D

Andrew

For others with a similar situation...

There are two built in plug-ins that can change every instance of "real" rests to "default" rests, or "default" to "real" in your selected region (or entire document).

• Plug-ins > Note, Beam, and Rest Editing... > Change to Default Whole Rests
• Plug-ins > Note, Beam, and Rest Editing... > Change to Real Whole Rests

These are also very useful when importing an XML file or opening an older file into Fin 27.

There are few good reasons to use real rests in empty measures. Putting a fermata on one is one. Any others?

Hi Motet,

I think that's the only reason...
