Yesterday's FInale 27 update

It broke 2 different things. First, I couldn't play any audio files while FInale was open. Ihad to close Finale and restart the computer to be able to watch YouTube or listen to music. I just fixed that by choosing Direct Sound as my audio driver. But it also fixed being able to save files. I get an error message. So I just uninstalled and reinstalled Finale and I still can't save files. I can 'save as' but I can't 'save'. Even if I create a new file, I can't save it.

I'm on Windows 11 on a brand new laptop (a Xmas present from my bro-in-law!). Please help.

When you uninstalled, did you do a complete job? I had to do a clean install, and they gave me a pretty good list of files to delete. I’m on a Mac, so the instructions won’t help you, but maybe you should open a support ticket and ask them what to do.

I did do a clean install. But I also opened a support ticket with them.

Was the error message displayed when you tried to save a document? If so your temp file location was not found or got corrupted or deleted. Finale does not create folders so if you make a special or change it from default you must make the folder yourself first.

The only way to save a new file is Save As.

Are you opening existing files by clicking on them in Windows, or are you using the Open command within Finale?

You might try uninstalling first and then doing a clean install rather than relying on the install program to successfully overwrite the old file.

Just saying - you need to restart the computer after installing Finale or any other software.

I try to open files both ways: by clicking on them in WIndows and by opening them from in FInale. I uninstalled FInale, restarted the computer, downloaded a new installer zip and reinstalled. I still can't 'save' files in progress. I can only 'save as' even for files I've already worked on.

Did you restart the computer after the re-installation. In the old days, you never installed something without doing a restart after. Now, you can get away with it sometimes but not always.

Have you checked the Finale/temp folder? Where it is and if it is valid.
