I have some lyrics ready go to, hyphenated, etc. I find click assignment to be very tedious. Is there a way to select the starting point in the lyrics window and the starting note on the score and then just telling it to go? There are no choices to be made if I click it in--just note, next note, next note... Have they automated that?

Do you mean something like Ctr-clicking? That's been an option for a long time, I think.

Probably that's why there's the shift lyrics feature - if there's a melisma which would force the syllables forward fx.

Didn't know about Ctrl-clicking--thanks.

Exactly as Anders says. On a Mac, opt-click flows the lyrics in, but I guess it’s different on Windows. Ties will be skipped automatically, and use Shift Lyrics to go over slurs.

Thanks. When I clicked one syllable at a time, Finale recognized slurs and did the right thing. I'll see if that happens with Ctrl+click, too.

I haven't dealt much with lyrics before, but I'm learning.

Right. When you click the lyrics in one by one, you skip the slurs and put the next lyric where it belongs. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen with flowing them in.

That looks useful! In this case, I'm making the librettist hyphenate.

If you have a slur over a number of notes (melisma), you may use Shift lyrics. There are a few simple options, but what I think you'd need in this case is Shift lyrics to the right, and Shift syllables by one note to the end of the lyric.

That's how I do it. Sometimes, you go too far by mistake, and need to shift them back to the left. On occasion, this can lead to confusion, so I clear the lyrics from that spot on, and re-enter them.

This seems like something that could be fixed, especially since it works clicking in one syllable at a time (amazing that it apparently doesn't use the same code). It would save people a lot of work.

There are a lot of things that don’t work the way they should. Unfortunately they are unable (or unwilling) to fix them. This is just another one of many.

I tried this. It worked on one thing, crashed on another. This one line makes it crash. How reliable is it?
It's you. How nice to see you. Now get out.

Maybe because there’s nothing that needs hyphenation? I don’t know. I honestly have never had a crash, with hundreds of songs. My only issue is that sometimes, it capitalizes strange pairs. I think it might be picking up some things as state abbreviations. Like I type pal, and it gives me PAl. Very strange. It has a few quirks, of course, but overall I wouldn’t be without it.

I thought about nothing to be hyphenated causing it, but that was the first line of a whole block which crashed. I emailed the guy. I ended up hyphenating that one myself, but it was useful for others.

I finished my project. The last glitch was that when there was a lot of stuff in the lyrics window, it had trouble displaying what was at the bottom. I ended up switching to verse 2 and setting its baseline to be like verse 1.

Thanks for your help.
