Can someone who's been using Finale 27 on Windows regularly look in the folder
C:\Users\Uuuuu\AppData\LocalLow
where Uuuuu is your Windows username? You may need to unhide the AppData folder to do this.
It looks like they got around the long-standing bug whereby they failed to lock temporary files they were putting in the Windows temp directory while Finale was running, and if the system clean-up task came along, it would delete them, leading to the inability to save the Finale file you were working on, and lost work.
It looks like the temporary directory by default is now the above-named LocalLow directory, which is not subject to the Windows clean-up task. Unfortunately, Finale doesn't always remove its temporary files when it exits, and they can pile up. I'm curious whether anyone finds dozens of such files in that directory.

There was nothing in the root folder of /roaming. Checking the Finale preferences/folders revealed that my Finale temp files are in appdata/LocalLow. And there were over 1200 Finale .tmp files dating back to 2018.

I have always put my Finale Temp folder on my D: drive and I have never had the "save" problem. The Autosave and Backup folders are also residing on the D: drive. A little margin of safety.

Sounds like a good idea. I put the temp and autosave files into a folder I manage; you do need to clean it out once in a while, as we've seen. Temp and autosave are not useful once you've quit Finale normally, but I've occasionally reverted to a .bakx file after doing something foolish, so I keep those with their .musx counterparts.
Naughty of MakeMusic to put the temp files in a hidden directory to pile up where you're unlikely to see them, though, instead of really fixing the issue. The Mac version used to have the same "save" problem--what's the default temporary file folder on the Mac now?

I've only been using 27 for about a month; I checked the folder and only see tmp files from my previous version of Finale.
