All of a sudden... I have a project where I loaded an audio file. The trumpet part I wrote lags behind in tempo and plays flat.

Windows 10, 32 GB RAM. Not enough to run the mighty, venerated, Grand High Exalted v27?

Thank you.

It's unlikely that your computer is underpowered.

Would seem like that, yes. It has always been quirky. Anyway, I thought I'd send the file to Support. Oh, wait, I'll attach the file and you might tell if if it plays OK at your end.

I don't have perfect pitch so I don't know if it's playing flat, but seems OK. With regard to your other problem, I changed one of your notes to a low F# and that played, too.

You would've heard it, believe me. Hmmm, are you using a Mac?

I did by a new PC. Hopefully, Finale v27 will perform better on that one. Like I sez, this one was always a lemon.

EDIT: You see the F# on the staff that says 8 basso? Take those two notes down an octave, see if the F# plays, please.

I am on Windows 10. I see nothing that says 8 basso.

Sent wrong file. The low G and F# in the triplet are not sounding at all here.

Attachment.

Thanks again.

The low G and F# in the triplet sound for me in Finale 27 on Windows.

Billy. Billy I can assure you 27.4.1 will run almost flawlessly on a Windows computer. It has for me, as all the older version have, and there is nothing special about me nor my machine. Exactly what computer did you buy? My trumpet does not lag behind and it does not play flat.

OK, the lemon is a Acer Aspire TC-780 Windows 10 Home, i5 and 32 GB RAM. The new one, yet to be set up, is a Dell Optiplex 7050, Windows 10 Pro, i7 quad core, 32 GB RAM upgradeable to 64 GB.

Billy I am not familiar with the Dell Optiplex 7050 but it looks like it meets the minimum requirements to run Finale 27.4.1.
27 works on thousands of Windows computers mostly without issue and it will for you, too.

I would send you a link to my latest piece which has a cornet solo in it but it isn't quite finished just yet.

Your new PC is Windows 10? Not to deliver unwelcome news, but Windows 10 support is scheduled to end in October 2025, and from what I read online you may not be able to upgrade your Optiplex to Windows 11 without major hardware change. If it's still in the box check on that in the event you want to return it.

I am not a trumpet/cornet player by any means but I can hang with any of the 5th and 6th graders at our school! :D 3rd space C just about does it for me! However, I have a circa. 1907(?) York Bb/A cornet. It is silver with a gold wash on the engraving. I have the hi and low pitch slides for it. Its in pretty nice shape, too. It might be a Monarch or Perfect model but I am way out of my comfort zone here. Talking way more than I know.

WOW! Guess what... On my new PC, Finale is AGAIN lagging behind the time and playing flat! It wasn't the lemon after all! The fact that Finale behaves this way on two different computers should give a hint? I'm screwed. All that money and it wasn't the PC at all.

Billy something else is going on obliviously. You saw and listened to my last piece. You can have the exact same results or perhaps even better. Troubleshooting from afar is always more difficult. At this point I would suggest if you know a friend that is a computer guru or you have a store like Microcenter we have here in Kansas, ask them to look at your machine and setup. Secondly setup a tech ticket with MM. https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

If those numbers don't match that is why your trumpet sounds off and lags. It is because of the mismatch and has nothing to do with Finale 27 or any other version of Finale.

I can't remember. What numbers are you referring to, please? Yes, I've accumulated a stack of support tickets.

I did. Now it's grayed out at 44,100 Hz.

How do I get them to match? They won't. If I chose 44,100, it is 48,000 grayed out in Finale. If I choose 48,000, it is 44,100 grayed out in Finale. Anyway, I went into audio set up. Even though, I had selected DirectSound, this stupid v27 reverted to ASIO. So I once again selected DirectSound. And Finale is working again. Albeit an ass pain to use.

Thank you.

Unless they've fixed it, changes you make to the audio settings won't stick if your system doesn't have a microphone, or if it's disabled. No, that doesn't make any sense.
