Hi,

I am writing an orchestra score for a song.
The song's verses and choruses are repeated several times with different orchestration, but the Piano part has chords which are the same for all the repeated verses/choruses.
So I would like to minimize the Piano part by using repeats notations.
Is there a way to do this in a linked part (without affecting the score and all other parts)?

I could, of course, extract the Piano part, to a separate file and edit it there - remove sections and add repeats instead. But then it is not linked anymore..

You could use a staff style (part only) to hide the repeated sections, then add expressions to enter "graphical" repeats (part only). And another expression (part only) to indicate play X times.
Still, there are a few problems : hidden measure numbers and rehearsal marks. You can also find a way to add them in the part, but it becomes tedious and time-consuming...

"Common practice" says that the layout for each part must match all the others. There must be a good reason for that approach.

If some parts have repeats and others have them written out, it can be confusing in rehearsals, which I think overrides any advantages you might see having repeats in the piano part. There might even be a disadvantage to repeats if you have to turn the page back.

I agree that it is confusing (in rehearsal), altogether not a very good idea. Less money spent on paper, more money on time lost.

I agree with my colleagues, write it out is best practice.

Personally, as a player, I do find it easier to play with repeats rather than having everything laid out.
It better organizes the structure in my mind and gives hints on what to expect..

But I agree that rehearsal-marks and and measure-numbers may cause a problems in rehearsals.
