I recently installed Finale 2014 from a CD on my Macbook Air. After going through the installation process, I opened Finale only to find it informing me that it could not load the .audio files for Garritan, so I checked the folder they were supposed to be installed in (Giff_Samples) and it is completely empty. I uninstalled and re-installed, and watched the entire process and sure enough it would appear the installer unpacks all of the audio files into the Giff_Samples folder but once again, after the process has completed I look and the Giff_Samples folder is completely empty.

After trying to manually re-assign the files under Midi/Audio>Audio Units Banks & Effects it still tells me it cannot find the samples where they ought to be (Giff_Samples). Any suggestions?

This issue could be hardware related.

I suggest that you contact the folks in MakeMusic’s Tech Support.
They know a lot about hardware related issues.

It was so frustrating, but the issue was finally resolved. Below I have attached the steps MakeMusic sent me which ultimately took care of the issue:

Thanks for contacting MakeMusic Customer Success. Let's try this:

1. Close Finale.
2. In your Mac Applications folder, find the Garritan Instruments for Finale folder. Drag it to the trash.
3. Open Finder and hold down SHIFT+COMMAND+G (or choose Go > Go to Folder) and type or copy and paste the following:
/library/preferences
4. Locate the following file and drag it to the trash:
com.Garritan.Instruments for Finale.plist
5. Restart your computer.
6. Start the Finale installer
7. On the fourth page of the installer (after the license agreement), click "Customize."
8. Uncheck everything EXCEPT "Garritan Instruments for Finale."
9. Click Install. Eventually, a separate installer will open.
10. Install following the default settings. Eventually, you will be prompted to select a destination folder for samples.
11. Verify that your destination folder is set to the following location: Macintosh HD > Applications > Garritan Instruments for Finale > GIFF_Samples
12. Select "Choose" or "OK" once the destination folder has been set.
13. Complete the installation process.
14. Launch Finale and test to see if the issue has been resolved.
