Can't get midi to work

For some reason I can't get my midi keyboard to work with Finale Songwriter. It has worked previously, but now I either can't remember how I got it working, or something is going wrong. I was hoping someone on this forum could help me out. I might just need a walkthrough on setting up and using midi as that's my best conceivable solution. I am using a Roland AX-Synth as my keyboard and have a Windows 7 64bit operating system. I've installed the appropriate driver for my synth and have been able to successfully select it as the midi in device in finale. I'm also using a USB cable connected directly to my computer. Also, I don't think it's a problem with my computer as I've tried connecting the synth on two different computers (the other one was running windows Vista, that's the one that I have been able to get it working on before).
