crescendo a buzz roll

Can anyone tell me how to create a crescendo playback for a snare drum buzz roll (eg Row-Off marching percussion note 60)? I can do it with the midi tool and controller 7, but don't know how to remove that controller effect when the crescendo is over. At that point I want to revert to Finale's normal handling of dynamics with key velocities. I am an experienced Finale user, but this is confusing and frustrating.
