Midi input not working at all!

Hi there. I am running OS10.9.5 on a MacBook Air with Finale 2011. I have watched the tutorials and gone through the entire trouble-shooting process and still cannot get my Roland f-110 (connected via a Roland Um-One USB /midi interface) to produce any pitches in Finale. The keyboard itself sounds fine, but all I get from the computer speakers are little 'blip' sounds and nothing whatsoever on the sheet music. I realise I may be doing something very obviously wrong but I really have tried hard to get it sorted so I'm asking for your help here please. Thanks - Rx
