Hello,

after importing a midi-file to finale, the playback plays the durations and dynamics of the original midi rather then whats notated.

Is there an easy possibilty to tell finale to play the notation and not the midi-file ?

Thank you very much

If I understand you correctly, the MIDI file contains both music notation data and performance data, right?

And Finale displays the music notation data as music notation in the Finale document, right?

But when you click the Playback button, Finale plays the performance data rather than the music notation, right?

To make Finale play the music notation you must clear the performance data:

Selection Tool.
Select All.
Edit menu > Clear Selected Items…

In the dialog box Clear Selected Items, de-select everything (click “None”), and select only Performance Data.
Click OK.

To get a “clean” playback of the music notation, clear all MIDI Data, including Continuous Data, Performance Data and Tempo Changes.

Maybe another thing to try :
Document menu -> Playback/Record Options.
Uncheck the 4 top boxes.
This usually works for music input via Hyperscripe (real time playing) : playback doesn't use the "playing data" (continuous data), it just reads the score as written.
But I have no idea if it would work with an imported midi file.

But it seems like it doesnt play my dymanics (ff-marks and so on) either.

It doesnt play any dynamics when unmarking those boxes.

Try with the box Key Velocities checked. Again, no guarantees...Just an idea.

Didnt work...

I mean there are a whole lot of other things sounding that aren't notated, as staccato and accents for instance.

Sorry to hear that. There also is a "Note Duration" checkbox (staccato is a duration parameter). Accents are related to Key velocity, I would think.
But maybe all this doesn't work with imported midi files.

The staccato-problem is solved with the "Note Duration" solution. Thanks for that.

Okay, i found out the problem. When using Auto-Dynamic Placement, finale doesnt set dynamics but only symbols. Then unmarking Duration in Playback-Options work.

The weird thing... when exporting as midi it still exports the previous midiinformations
