I'm having playback problems in one file of a multi-movement piece - all the other files play back normally (they were created at the same time, from the same template), but in the one, the violin plays back very sharp, about a quarter step high. It's Garritan instrument Violin Solo KS 1. Human playback is standard. What might I be doing wrong?

It sounds like the pitch wheel is stuck. This can happen, especially with Garritan instruments, if HP has used the pitch wheel to accomplish a gliss or other pitch modification. It can easily get stuck in other than the zero position.

Thank you Zuill - this sounds likely, as there are lots of glisses in this file, but I haven't been able to fix it. I know next to nothing about how midi works, and after consulting the user manual, I'm still stumped. I tried both 'edit continuous data' and 'reset continuous data' but the violin pitch remains sharp. Are there simpler instructions for this somewhere?

The easiest way to troubleshoot is with the file itself. Without seeing the file, I wouldn't know what is causing the issue.

Maybe we need to know where the out of tune violin starts being out of tune. I am not hearing it, yet. Also, I'm a bit confused by the violin changing to flute abruptly without any warning. How does the player do that?

Anyway, we need more information to be of help.

Apologies - this attached file should show the problem. I mistakenly sent you the one where I'd changed the violin's playback to flute, because the flute was in tune.

It's easiest to hear it in these measures: mm. 40-42 on page 6, and mm. 51-end, starting on page 8.
The violin is sharp throughout, from its first entrance in mm. 9, so I sent the whole file. If you listen/compare adjacent solo voices you can hear it everywhere. I can deal with it everywhere except in the bars mentioned above.

I'm just not hearing it. However, your file loaded with the sounds missing, which leads me to believe I don't have the sounds (samples) you are using. I'm using the GIfF sounds, and they are playing fine, whereas yours are apparently not.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Nice piece. When I play it I don't get any warnings about missing sounds (I assume it would report thus?) but the violin is in tune.

This is what the Score Manager looks like when I open the file. In order to get playback, I have to choose Reassign Playback Sounds.
