I was finishing a big band chart, and I played back the last section I was working on when suddenly two of the trumpet parts came down with a case of the portamentos and started glissing all over the place. What could have caused that, and how do I erase whatever MIDI message they are now receiving?

Thanks, in advance!

The first thing I would do is look at the MIDI data for those staves when in the MIDI Tool.

I can't seem to effect any change. I highlighted the measures with the MIDI tool, went to continuous data and tried to zero it. No luck. When I double clicked on the highlighted region should MIDI data appear in the split window? If so, there was nothing there. This is a function I've never ventured into, so you'll have to pardon my lack of experience here.

Thanks for helping!

Well, if you could post a sample file extracted from the file in question, we could test things.

Sometimes this kind of thing happens if you stop playback just after a gliss (or pizz, etc.), then basically that marking remains active in the midi controls - usually starting playback over back at the beginning of the score or somewhere that has another marking to "reset" the technique will straighten it out, or else closing & reopening the file or Finale.

I tried starting playback at different places when this issue first appeared. No change. I've set portamento to zero in instrument control, and yet the problem persists. I haven't used the glissando tool in this whole arrangement, so it's baffling why the file suddenly inserts it into the score.

Thanks for your input!
