Pizzicato problem

I'm using ARIA Player on Windows Finale 25 for a string quartet I'm composing for a competition that requires a MIDI recording sent in.

Do the pizz. and arco markings from the Expression Tool affect the plucking and bowing of ARIA's string instruments? In my case they're not. I made sure they're not making any of the other string instruments play pizzicato.

How do I make it so that they play pizz. or arco when I want, if possible? If not possible, do I have to use Finale's instruments, and how would I switch to them, if necessary?

(Sorry for so many situational questions.)

you have to choose instruments that are marked "KS" (as in KeySwitch").

also, for markings to affect playback, you have to have HumanPlayback active.

My string instruments in ARIA all have KS in their label but still none of them are playing pizz.

Human Playback is on Standard.

Never mind. It took a couple minutes for it to "register" or something, I guess. I did nothing wrong; it was just a matter of patience.

Thank you so much! My pizzicato cello sounds lovely.

I've run into another problem.

There are two ways (that I know of) that you can play your music back:

1) Press the triangle play button at the top left, or
2) hold the space bar, during which your pointer will appear as an ear, and click the measure you want to start playback from.

Whenever I use the latter method, the strings that have the pizz. marking anywhere on their part at all will play everything pizzicato. So far the viola hasn't had a pizz. marking so it plays arco. But the violin and cello don't have a pizz. marking until a dozen measures in, and starting playback with method 2 before those measures makes them play everything pizz.

Is there any way to fix this too? I'd hate having to hear the entire piece to hear it correctly, regarding pizzicato/arco, and entering the measure number into the playback board at the top left is a lot more work than just holding the space bar and clicking the measure I want to hear.

Thanks again,
Luke

space bar playback is WITHOUT HumanPlayback.
HP is what lets Finale know which keyswitches to apply.

I see. So is the only way to start from a specific measure with HP entering the measure into the playback measure field?

or set playback to start from "leftmost measure". Playback will start from the 1st measure showing on your screen. (this is where playback from the scroll view window is superior)

That's a real lifesaver. Thanks x 3. I'll try to remember all this or refer back to it the next time I write a large ensemble. o_o
