Finale sticks on pre-processing file for Human Playback

Recently, almost every time I run playback, a popup sticks that says "Pre-processing file for Human Playback" and there's a percentage complete (e.g., 35%) The only way to make it go away is to exit Finale. (Just closing the file doesn't fix it.) For files that have any custom Midi (tempo changes), those are corrupted if one saves the file once this sticking popup happens. So the best thing to do is to exit and start over.

This has happened on multiple files, using the built-in Garritan piano and bass clarinet instruments. These files also happen to have an expression mark with "Swing" in it. Not sure if that's related, although I've used it before without any problem. I have not had this problem playing back files with just piano, but I'm concerned that over time, maybe it will start affecting all files.

It seems to be getting more frequent. It used to be that only after playing back the same file from the middle of the file, after several successful playbacks, it would happen. Now, it happens every time or almost every time. I have tried rebooting, pasting the music into a new file, clearing all Midi data in the file, and trying to make the mode that I'm different from the last time it happened. None of these approaches have worked.

Is there some way to debug this, some log? Any known workaround?

This is Finale 2010b41, running on Windows 7.
Thanks!

Nothing to really help you, but...

For years, I had HP turned off, because I was tired of that 10-15 second wait, while HP was loading. However, in F25, it's almost instantaneous, and so I leave it on.

Just for fun, why don't you download the demo and try it?

Typically, older versions of Finale would hang in processing hairpins, or possibly some expressions. I would start by troubleshooting hairpins by deleting them one at a time until the culprit is revealed. Longstanding misbehavior and not easy to solve.

If you want to try v25, you will need to have a 64 bit system.

One thing I've discovered is that it hangs like this only if there are glissandi in the score. Files that don't have the glissando marking don't crash. However, if I tell HP not to interpret the glissandi (even though I'd rather hear them), it still hangs.

Thanks for the help. It's not that it's slow...it's that it hangs indefinitely, like a crash....not 100% of the time, but very often in files that have glissandi.
I've been afraid to upgrade because I'm concerned that there might be subtle differences in how my old files play back. But maybe soon I'll have to "bite the bullet" if these bugs get worse.

When the operating system is 11 years old and the application is nearly 9, who's to say that you are seeing bugs? Incompatibilities, oh yes.

25 will not corrupt your current install but, as mentioned already, it does need the 64bit version of Win 7 (or later) installed over hardware that can run it.

Windows 7 is about 8 years old, and Windows 7 is probably what Finale 2010 was developed on, but still, good point. Could be futile trying to solve it.

I often write out Glisses w/32nd notes, for playback-only.
It usually sounds better to me.
Sometimes I have to specify when to gliss,
a half note may get changed to a dotted quarter tied to an 8th, to prevent early, slow glasses.
Sometimes files w/Glisses from Smart Shapes are fine, and don't hang or go out of tune in a totally bizarre way!
I'm on F25/Mac Sierra.

Ack, somehow my brain saw Win 7 and went into thinking 2007... It had been a long day. But, yes, the last Win 7 update was in 2016. Don't remember when the last F-2010 update was but there have been 5 version updates (4 paid) since then.
