"rewire mode"

I just spent a half hour desperately trying to get playback in Finale 25 to work... it was perfect until today.
The only thing that changed between yesterday and today is that I installed Reaper. (I've decided to take the plunge)

So today I open Reaper and start puttering about with a small MIDI file I imported. It's like trying to learn Chinese by auditing a class at Beijing University in Nuclear Physics, when you're a podiatrist who only speaks English. Anyway, that aside...

I close Reaper, do a few other things, then open Finale to check something, and... no playback.
The playback controls are all greyed out. Nothing works.
Finale 2012 works. But not 25.

I was VERY lucky to find, after a desperate half hour of checking under the hood, on a website a comment about "Rewire mode" and how it affects the playback controls of Finale 25.

now, can someone PLEASE explain to me why I had to reboot my computer after having used Reaper then closed it, before using Finale 25?

Is there some way of telling either Finale or Reaper never to use this "Rewire mode"?

Unfortunately not, which is incredibly annoying. MM didn't even bother to comment on my request for this.

Basically, if any rewire program is run, the next time you open Finale it will be in rewire mode. You don't have to reboot your system, but you do have to reset rewire in Finale and restart it:

MIDI/Audio / Device Setup / Reset Rewire

Oh, I found a bit of a cheat for fixing this annoying problem.
If you never plan on using Rewire, then just rename the two Rewire DLL files. There's one called just rewire.dll (which I renamed to rewire.not), and another which I think has the word "final" along with rewire (and again, I just changed the .dll to .not)

Thanks Michael, that seems to work!
