Windows 7, Finale 2014.5

I've been around this issue for months now with Make Music, and I still can't get these to sound right.

Steps:

1: Make sure the Percussion MIDI map editor is conformed in the MIDI menu
2: Make sure the correct MIDI map is in the score manager
3: Make sure the right MIDI numbers are in the Percussion map
4: Select the entire passage and lower the key velocity (P.S. I still have no idea what this function is or means, and what difference it is supposed to make. MakeMusic warned it could take a great deal of playing around to get what I wanted.)

It's bugging me no end that in earlier versions you didn't have to do all this. At any rate, I'm still not having much luck: to my ear, the sound is coming out like a bunch of tin cans, not brush drums. All suggestions appreciated, as always.

If you're trying to get a Snare Drum Brush with GIfF, you're out of luck, as it doesn't have one. I think we discussed this in another thread and already covered the issue. Maybe I'm thinking of someone else. If someone at MakeMusic told you there was a Brush in GIfF, either they don't know their product that well, or they have an in-house version that we are not privy to.

I looked at that other topic (thread) and see that I posted a revised version of your file with the Brush sound. Did you see that? That's the only way I know of to get it outside of maybe GPO or another set of Garritan sounds.

I realize when I reassigned instruments to be able to hear anything (when I open a file with a newer version of the Aria Player, it wipes out the instrument assignments). In my revised file, I failed to check the instrument choices as in the original file, so the voices all got assigned to piano. However, my main goal was to get the Brush sound. That is the change that my revised file was designed to demonstrate.

Zuill, you're right, I had posted this before and completely forgot. I'm losing track of what I'm posting between here and the MM forum.

So your version is definitely an improvement, though it sounds more like sandpaper than brush drums, but that's better than the steel drum sound my version is getting. What did you do? I have ARIA Player x64, I assume that's the latest? Or is it just that GIfF doesn't have that bandwidth? Which is odd because MM seems to think they do, though after weeks of back and forth they never really solved it.

Since posting yesterday I've done considerably other adjustments to the document, so whatever steps you took would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you look at the MIDI Map for Electronic Kit and Brush Kit, they both have an Elctronic Snare, wwhere I would have expected the brush Kit to have a Brush Snare, at leat. Why do they bother to call it a Brusk Kit Map?

I'm using the SmartMusic SoftSynth to get the brush. I know there are those who say all you need is Garritan, but that is not even close to the whole truth. I've been labeled as Garritan basher. In reality, I'm a Garritan realist, as I can recognize where Garritan is lacking. So, use it when you can, but use other available sounds when Garritan falls short.
