I'm running Finale 2014.5 on a Mac using OS X El Capitan v. 10.11.6
I cannot control the tempo that it plays back. It seems no matter what tempo I have entered (both in the playback controls and also expression tools tempo) it plays at a super fast tempo i.e. Quarter = 300 bpm. I tried clearing out all the midi data and this did nothing. Any suggestions??????

On a separate note, I have also had extreme trouble when it does playback at a tempo that I can comprehend that some pitches linger and hold longer than their note values dictate thus influencing the chords that follow creating some very interesting unwelcomed sounds. Any suggestions??????

This is hard to diagnose without examining a file.

I should have also stated that this is happening not with one file but with all my Finale files. I'm guessing there must be a setting that I've overlooked somewhere. Thanks to all who can help me troubleshoot this!!!

Attach one of your files anyway, just in case.

Sometimes I notice playback at incorrect tempo when I mute a stave to which is attached the tempo marking. Unmuting it corrects the tempo! Though, perhaps this is unrelated to your issue. Have you tried turning off all your other apps to lighten the computer's load during playback? Just my 2c. Good luck...

Yesterday I messed around with the settings and I was able to get it to behave like it should...This is what I did...
I went to MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > MIDI/Internal Speaker Setup and clicked on a few things and SHAZAM!
It worked. Then today I listened to the file and it went back to playing FAST, FAST, FAST.... so I repeated my method and SHAZAM!!!
I don't know what I am doing but whatever I am doing is working. Also, this took care of my other problem as well with notes lingering beyond their written values. SHAZAM!!!

This is what I did.
In the menu bar I clicked on MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > MIDI/Internal Speaker Setup, then once that dialogue box was open I changed the MIDI System from None to CoreMidi and then set my Playback to SmartMusic SoftSynth. Those 2 things in that dialogue box solved my issues...Shazam!
Now if there was some way to make it stick so I don't have to do this every time I start up Finale 2014.5...an suggestions?????

Thanks for the suggestion Peter, I feel like a dope, I've never ever had to use that button and honestly I didn't know it existed.
It worked just fine, I pressed the button then quit the program, restarted and I didn't have to do anything else. BRAVO!!!

I'm am having this same problem, however I am using Windows. No amount of fiddling with MIDI settings seems to fix this issue. I have also tried multiple interfaces and ASIO settings. Has anyone found a permanent solution?

Let us see the file and maybe we can find the culprit.

What problem are you having? Since there are no tempo marks, it plays back at whatever speed is set in the playback controls. The pickup measures hiccup before getting going, is the only anomaly I see.

The playback speed is insanely fast at ~400+bpm. This is regardless of the global tempo. If I set the tempo to 10 the notes become discernible.

Looks like these files were created in Notepad 2012 for Mac, then resaved in Finale 2012 for Mac. Your specs say you are using Finale 25 on Windows.

Anyway, if all the files, even new ones, are playing super fast, it may be a mismatch between the sample rate setting in Finale, and your soundcard sample rate. Do they match?

Since they play at the speed I set in playback controls, but not for you, the sample rate issue is my best guess.

You are the MAN!!!!!! It turned out I had mismatched ASIO devices and didn't notice. Thank you so much!!!
