All of a sudden exporting audio from a document gives a very close to inaudible result. Earlier today the export was quite normal (even though way too low an output as is usual with Finale), but for no apparent reason the output shows all but a flat line in the DAW. This has happened to me before in other documents and so far I have been able to restore a 'normal' volume level by exporting XML and importing the XML into a new document.

Finale, however, had yet another suprise for me in store. Shortly after I give the command to export the XML, I get the message: "Error while exporting MusicXML file Widmung.musicxml at part 3, measure 40. Please contact MakeMusic Support for assistance."

Is there anything I can do with this document save starting all over?

Not enough info to guess.

If a reboot doesn’t fix this — and it might — tell us what we need to know, step by step exactly what you are doing. Begin with the build of Finale 25 you are using. 25.4 introdued some variables in MusicXML export.

The version of Finale I'm using is 25.4.1.164. I have updated the signature.

Well, there is really not much to tell. I choose "Export MusicXML…" from the File menu and very shortly after I point to where the XML file should be saved, Finale tells me it will not save the XML file because of an error "at part 3, measure 40". A reboot didn't fix this.

I have cleared measure 40 in part 3 (assuming that "part 3" equals staff 3) for the sake of testing and Finale managed to get just a little further, but was arrested in the process of exporting the XML with a next message: "Error while exporting MusicXML file Widmung.musicxml at part 10, measure 17. Please contact MakeMusic Support for assistance." Part 10 obviously doesn't equal staff 10 (or any adjacent staff), because clearing that measure in staff 10 doesn't avoid the error.

MakeMusic meanwhile hasn't responded yet. Well, they did, but they only focussed on the volume level of the playback which I had solved on my own by (once again) reassigning playback sounds. The XML-export error, which I believe to be the far more serious problem, wasn't addressed.

Should anyone be interested: MakeMusic acknowledges the problem with exporting XML as a bug in Finale 25. They are looking into it and hope to come up with a fix soon. Meanwhile it is advised to export XML from within Finale 2014 instead of Finale 25.
