Hi,

I have reinstalled Finale 2012c entirely, but stilI suffers from the two very disturbing problems listed below.

1. Some parts/instruments (randomly) are being repeated after some bars, although there is a rest in these.
2. Instruments are playing back falsely (also randomly) I restart the program over and over again, for a few seconds it might be ok, then false again. Terrible.

I hope someone could shed some light on this.

kind regards

Hei Lennart,

1) Please include pertinent details.
Info about your operating system can expedite answers.
Consider putting at least your Finale version and operating system in your profile to save having to re-enter it each post.
Also, info about your hardware could help.
You can also add info into your signature field.

2) Specify the steps you've already taken, so that we can rule out things.
Have you e. g.
- tried trashing your preferences file?
- tested a brand new user account?
- rebooted?

I had that problem just today while revisiting an old project. Then I remembered that I had edited a section with hidden staves and one of them contained a unison part—or rather it was before I edited the visible staff (oops!). I unhid them, removed the notes, re-hid them and the problem went away.

Pilot error can happen to us all.

Hi Peter
Your responded in December by asking the following:

- tried trashing your preferences file? My reply now: I don't understand what you mean by this.
- tested a brand new user account? My reply: ?
- rebooted? My reply: yes I have, many times.

I now attach the score. I wanted to also submit the exported false audio, but it seems not to be working sending wav-files through this forum.

Hi Lennart,

According to your profile you are using Windows Finale 2012c.

I am afraid I can not be of much help here, since I am using Mac Finale v25.

1) The Win Finale preferences file is called finale.ini.
It resides in the Finale 2012 folder.

You can delete your Finale Preferences to reset settings back to what they were when it was originally installed.

1. Go to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale 2012
The AppData directory is hidden by default, so you will have to set the option to display hidden files before you can see it in the Explorer.
2. Look for the "FINMIDI.ini" and "Finale.ini" files
3. Drag them to your desktop
4. Restart Finale and you will be set to go.

Once you see that Finale has been started successfully, you can delete the old INI files you dragged to your desktop.

2) I do not know, how to create a new user account in Windows.
NB: a new user account is meant as a test, not as a solution.

3) I took a look at your attached Finale 2012 .mus document.
I added an x to the file name extension, and opened the document in Mac Finale v25.
Unfortunately there are some playback differences between Windows Finale and Mac Finale.

At first, your document did not play back at all.
I could, however, see from the MIDI/Audio menu that you are using VST in this document.
VST is - in Mac Finale - called “Audio Units”.

I was able to get playback sound, via reassigning playback sounds (MIDI/Audio menu), and the document played back without the problems you mentioned (instruments being repeated randomly, instruments playing back falsely).

I also was able to get playback sound via “Play Finale Through MIDI” (MIDI/Audio menu), and the document played back without the problems you mentioned.
