Hi there,
I have been using Finale 2010 now for about a year and have not had any problems until now. I just recently got a new PC and am running Windows 7 Ultimate and before I was using XP. Also, I do have the latest update for Finale.

For some strange reason I cannot delete any measures. When I go to the edit tab the delete measure stack it is grayed out and I cannot select it. I know how to delete measures, you basically highlight the area using the mass edit tool and press delete. Well, nothing happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Col. Reb

Make sure that you are selecting the entire measure, not just the measure in one or more staves. The selection area needs to be a single area, not just the area in certain staves.

An idea:

To delete a measure you must select the entire measure stack.

To select a measure (for deleting), double-click the measure.

Double-clicking (instead of single-clicking) will ensure that the entire measure stack is selected.

Thanks Guys!

Double clicking fixed it for some reason. Before when I was using 2005 all I had to do was highlight the area and press delete.

It fixed it because the selection tool was completely revamped a couple of years ago. You should take the time to watch the videos to see what has changed. You are probably missing a lot of the new features.

Peter, what tool are you using that double-clicking selects an entire measure stack? For me, all it does is pull up the dialog box for whichever tool that I am in, whether using Finale 2010 or 2011. Or perhaps it is just on Macs but not PCs?

Warren,
Use the selection tool for this. Remember, hitting ESC (usually 2 or 3 times) will get the selection tool for you, if you're in another tool.

There is also a direct keyboard shortcut to the Selection Tool.

In the Mac version it is Shift-Command-A.

I suspect that it is something similar in the Windows version (perhaps Shift-Ctrl-A?).

Hmmm... Even when I tested all the different tools to try to get the double-click to work, I didn't bother with the Selection tool. I have never used it except to click on an artifact to bring up its tool. I didn't realize that the selection tool did anything else. That's why I read the forum every day. You learn things all the time.

Warren, try the contextual menu of the Selection tool (right-click), you'll see you can do many things from there.

Agreed. The Selection Tool is pretty much the übertool, these days.

It doesn't seem to do anything that the measure tool doesn't do except let me double-click on a measure to select the entire measure across all staves.

Warren, I can do all these things with the Selection Tool. Doesn't yours show this, as well?

Interesting! I never noticed that, myself. I just use the selection tool.

So, as far as I can figure out, the only unique things that the selection tool does, is let you click on an item to bring up its associated tool, and to double-click a measure to select the entire measure stack. Does anybody know of anything else that you can do with the selection tool that you cannot do with the measure tool?
