Hello
Last weeks I have noticed something strange when I am using the MIDI keyboard. When I use the mouse to introduce notes (Simple Entry) if the next note is longer than the "free space" I listen a noise and the note is not introduced. But with the keyboard the note is "divided" in between the present measure and the next one.
Example:
4/4 3 quarter notes and when I try to introduce a half
- Mouse: It is not possible
- Keyboard: a quarter note tied to other quarter note in the next measure
Is it possible to avoid that?
Thank you in advance
Iker

Welcome to the forum!
I am afraid I do not understand.
What is the problem you are trying to solve?
What do you need when you are trying to “overfill” a measure?
- the Mouse behaviour (error sound warning)?
- the Keyboard behaviour (the rhythmic value split across the barline)?
- something else (e. g. actually “overfilling” the measure)?
Please explain

Thanks Peter
I would like to avoid the overfilling when I use the Midi keyboard. I am using Finale 2012 and the keyboard is a Cakewalk A500-PRO conected by USB.
Sorry about my english level.
Best regards

If I understand you correctly, you do not need to “overfill” a measure, e. g. having 5 quarters in a 4/4 measure, right?
One more question:
When you are entering music via MIDI keyboard, are you then using the Speedy Entry Tool or the Simple Entry Tool?
Generally I would recommend using the MIDI keyboard with Speedy rather than with Simple, since MIDI keyboard entry with the Speedy Entry Tool is very fast.

Thanks
I have used Simple Entry. I have to learn the Speedy Entry. I know that it is very similar but when I tried it I only wrote rests.
Best regards

My first guess:Iker Gonzalez wrote:…I have to learn the Speedy Entry. I know that it is very similar but when I tried it, I only wrote rests…
Look in the Speedy menu.
Is the menu item “Use MIDI Device for Input” selected or de-selected?

Hello Peter,
The item "Use MIDI Device for Input” is selected but if I type 5 in the keypad I only obtain the rest of the quarter note. Is that normal?
With the Simple Entry if I have a lot of quarter notes I only have to type 5 the first time and play in the MIDI keyboard. I have done a prove and looks like that it is necessary to type simultaneuosly both keyboards (the keypad and the MIDI keyboard).
On the other hand it looks like that my problem it is solved using the Speedy Entry.
Best regards

Speedy works in the opposite way than Simple:Iker Gonzalez wrote:…The item "Use MIDI Device for Input” is selected but if I type 5 in the keypad I only obtain the rest of the quarter note. Is that normal?…
Simple: first specify the rhythmic value, and then the entry is triggered by the scale step
Speedy: first specify the scale step, and then the entry is triggered by the rhythmic value
In Other Words:
In Speedy you must hold down on the keyboard, and then while you hold down on the keyboard, the entry is triggered when you specify the rhythmic value on the keypad.
Do you know the Speedy Entry Tool’s “CapsLock mode”?Iker Gonzalez wrote:…With the Simple Entry if I have a lot of quarter notes I only have to type 5 the first time and play in the MIDI keyboard. Thank you very much Peter
Yes, I know the CapsLock mode. I have used with the Simple Entry mode for several months. But now I have to start with the Speedy Entry Mode. At the beggining it will be a bit crazy but I think that it is much more interesting to work with it.
Provably I am going to transcribe something in order to train myself.
Step by Step
Best regards

Hello Blackrosegul
Now, normally I use the Speedy Entry Tool (Nomal and Caps Lock mode). I only use the Simple Entry Tool with the "Repitch tool".
As I have used the Simple Entry Tool for years, now I have to change "litle by litle".
In addition I would like to learn something about how to write a plug-in. But that's another idea...
Best regards
